Safety Considerations
As a Shifen Trail participant, you are responsible for yourself and should know the rules and regulations of the event. You need to be able to clearly evaluate your mental and physical abilities. You need to be sufficiently trained and keep all the necessary equipment with you. Participants should be able to complete their registered category in a semi-autonomous manner in terms of food, drink, clothing and safety. This requires an ability to adapt and face expected or unexpected problems (darkness, bad weather, physical ailments, injury, etc.).
The Event takes place on extremely rugged, single-track hiking trails. Running/hiking on such trails comes with inherent risks that Participants accept upon entering the event. Participants will be in remote areas where help is not always nearby for extended periods and need to be prepared accordingly in cases of emergency.
In addition to trail conditions, other potential dangers include but are not limited to wet/slippery trail conditions (mud, roots and rocks), wet/slippery boardwalks and bridges, bees/bee stings, road crossings and steep drop-offs/cliffs. Caution must be taken with regard to personal safety.

DVTT AED Runner
AED Runner
We are grateful to have the outstanding support team from DVTT AED Runner joining us for the 2026 Shifen Trail. They will provide essential first aid coverage and AED emergency response throughout the entire event.
Guided by the belief that “one person’s power is limited, but a group’s power is infinite,” DVTT AED Runners are a dedicated team who carry Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and first aid kits along the race course. They serve as silent guardians, ensuring the safety of every participant.
Members of the DVTT AED Runner team can be easily recognized by their red vests, white hats, and the AED logo. Each pair carries compact yet vital AED units to safeguard runners along the trail.
DVTT’s mission is grounded in public service. They voluntarily support road races, trail races, triathlons, and various endurance events across Taiwan and its outlying islands. Their primary responsibility is to patrol the course and respond swiftly to emergencies such as sudden cardiac arrest, irregular heart rhythms, and other injuries requiring urgent medical care.
AED Runners operate in two-person teams consisting of a Lead Responder and an Assistant:
The Lead Responder must be a certified doctor, nurse, or EMT and is responsible for directing on-site emergency actions.
The Assistant must hold valid CPR + AED certification, helps with communication, and carries the first aid kit during the event.
To maintain high standards of readiness and endurance, all DVTT AED Runners must have completed at least three full marathons before joining the team.
We deeply appreciate their commitment and are honored to have them safeguarding the 2026 Shifen Trail.

Recommended Race Kit
For all routes, we recommend runners carry their own water in a bottle or hydration bladder. For the multi-day stage races (36km/51km), 33km, and 18km categories, please carry route maps on a smart device. Plan to bring at least 1 liter of water for the start, these trails can be challenging, especially if it’s a warm day. Also, bring snacks or energy support based on your personal preferences. In case of rain, carry appropriate rain protection; exposure and hypothermia are serious risks, although First Aid will be on standby. Don’t forget sunscreen and a cap for a forecasted sunny day!
We recommend carrying cash, a smartcard, and your NHI Health card. Any participant who doesn’t meet the cut-off times at Houtong or CP2/AS2 (Dahua) will need to take a train back to the Shifen Waterfall Yuetaoliao Camping Area, so cash or smartcards will be essential.
Lastly, all runners must carry a fully charged phone with the Event Organizer and Emergency contact numbers stored.
